Board of Directors

Ian Houben
Chairman of the Board
I am excited to use my skills and experiences as a member of the New Generation Haiti Board of Directors. I bring degrees in Economics and Education, work experience in business analysis, marketing, and retail management, and on the ground experience in Haiti that has led to the development of numerous relationships and understanding of the Haitian Creole language. I have dedicated much of my time, and plan on being involved in Haiti for the rest of my life.

My wife and I currently attend North Country Christ the King Church, where we are trying to become more active within our community. We are currently expanding our role within missions and Christ’s Kingdom, and what that looks like for us. I specifically enjoy using my talent with computers and technology to further God’s kingdom. I also feel that I have skills in communication, leadership and encouragement, that I am working on growing within myself to help others.

Laura Korthuis
Chairman of the Board/Treasurer of the Board
I have been on the Board of Directors since mid-2018, but began volunteering with New Generation Ministries in 2012 after traveling to Haiti for the first time on a Vision and Learning trip. Since then I have enjoyed being involved in many different aspects of the ministry like; fundraiser events, processing donations, and restructuring the accounting system in order to build better reporting tools. I have traveled to Haiti three times and am eager to return.

My mother introduced me to the Lord Jesus at age 7 but I would consider my action evidenced faith real in my late 40s. My growing passion through the years for the lost and hurting people of the world has led me to serve our Lord wherever I feel He has called me, which is in part to the Haitian people, to come alongside them in association with NG ministries for the last 10 years, and to dedicate business resources to help grow the kingdom of our Lord.

I was raised in a Christian home and never doubted the validity of the Christian faith. Throughout life I have slowly to love God more and more and always had a heart for the people around me, and far away! Along with my wife and four children, we adopted our 5th child from China 5 years ago. I am currently a deacon and missions director at Legacy Church in Bellingham. I love serving on the New Generations board and love hearing about the massive movement toward Christ in Haiti! My day job is a local business owner.

I was born in Havana, Cuba and as a child fled a communist country with my family to the United States. Jesus would become more than a just name for me while I was a student at college. After graduating from college I would attend a bible college, complete a campus ministry internship program and proceed to be a campus minister for five years with Chi Alpha Campus Ministries. I would then move on into the marketplace in banking and mortgage lending. During this time period I would start King of Hearts Ministries a spiritual coaching and evangelistic ministry. I have a passion for global missions and I have had the opportunity to minister in countries such as Germany, Czech Republic, Belgium, Morocco, Guatemala, Brazil, India, Trinidad Tobago, Cuba and Haiti. I look forward to and serving on the board for New Generation Ministries and being a part of a ministry that God will use to bring transformation to the nation of Haiti.

Born and raised in Lynden, 42 years old, husband to Stephanie Broersma, father of Addison (17), Charlie (13), Myriam (9), and Baylee (5). Two of our children are adopted so we have always had a heart for adoption and lost children, thus the desire to be a part of NG. Been a believer since I was in my late teens, but that walk became real in my late 20’s. I am one of the principal owners of Elements Hospitality, based in Lynden, which renovates high end boutique hotels, seniors living facilities, and timeshare properties around the US. After a few life changing ministry experiences around the world, with Greg Neufeldt, we decided to dedicate our business to Kingdom purposes, and to promoting / helping finance those in the trenches, bringing the gospel to the lost. We do this by helping fund a few ministries Internationally. My personal desire is to engage with those ministries and bring value to them in some way, thus my desire to be a part of NG’s board.
